Collier named American College of Sports Medicine Fellow

ScottCollier_t.jpgBOONE—Scott Collier has been named an American College of Sports Medicine Fellow. Collier is an assistant professor in the College of Health Sciences’ Department of Health, Leisure and Exercise Science at Appalachian State University.

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) promotes and integrates scientific research, education, and practical applications of sports medicine and exercise science to maintain and enhance physical performance, fitness, health, and quality of life.

At Appalachian, Collier’s research has focused on the beneficial effects of exercise on cardio vascular health, including how resistance training can help reduce blood pressure by increasing blood flow.

Fellowship status recognizes an ACSM member’s professional achievement and competence in the related disciplines of sports medicine, and a demonstrated interest and/or contribution to the goals of sports medicine.

ACSM is the largest sports medicine and exercise science organization in the world, with more than 20,000 international, national and regional chapter members.
