BOONE—
Looking Glass Gallery at Appalachian State University presents “Stories in the Sky,” an exhibition of drawings on paper by Heather Divoky. The show will be on view March 15 – April 5. A closing reception will be held Tuesday, April 5, from 6 – 7 p.m. in the gallery. The event is free and open to the public. The exhibition is curated by Dianna Loughlin, curator of the Looking Glass Gallery. [more]

BOONE – Drs. Amelia Cheney and Robert L. Sanders are editors of a textbook addressing online teaching and learning.
The text, “Teaching and Learning in 3D Immersive Worlds: Pedagogical Models and Constructivist Approaches” published by IGI Global, examines successful implementation of social constructivist instructional design tenets in 3D virtual immersive environments. [more]

BOONE—The 13th annual Polar Plunge at Appalachian State University on Thursday, Feb. 17, raised more than $8,000 for the Watauga County Special Olympics. A total of 200 plungers participated. All of the money raised will support Watauga County athletes. Prizes were awarded to the most extreme costume for male and female jumpers, as well as to the top fund raising group and individual.

BOONE—Mental health services in rural areas are often limited, especially for children and adolescents. Students encounter many barriers to receiving adequate mental health treatment. These include access, transportation, stigma and finances. [more]

BOONE—Clarinetist and composer Eric P. Mandat will present a guest recital March 17 at 6 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.
Mandat is recognized internationally for his groundbreaking contributions to contemporary clarinet music. [more]

BOONE—The 3rd Annual Global Opportunities Conference and Expo with the theme “Get Connected: Strategies for Going Global” will be held Friday, April 1, from 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center at Appalachian State University.
The conference provides a forum for business professionals, students and the academic community to gain knowledge of trends in international business and opportunities to increase their international connections. [more]
