BOONEfreshmanposter_t.jpg – Appalachian State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance presents its annual Freshman Showcase Oct. 13-16 in the I.G. Greer Studio Theatre on Appalachian’s campus. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, Oct. 13-15, and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for faculty and staff, and $6 for students and youth K-18.  The box office is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 2-5 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday 12:30-5 p.m., and one hour prior to show time.  Patrons can purchase tickets in person, by phone at 828-262-3063, or online at www.theatre.appstate.edu/performances.

The Department of Theatre and Dance offers the Freshman Showcase every fall semester to introduce new talent within the student body.  The performers and production crew are all first-year students. This year, students perform scenes from Pulitzer Prize-winning plays, and original dance pieces choreographed by senior dance students. This show provides freshman dance students an opportunity to work with advanced level dance students through the rehearsal process and to perform for the first time on campus.

The 2010 Freshman Showcase is directed by Trimella Chaney, with faculty dance coordinator Laurie Atkins and student choreographers Carrie Harding, Jessie Maynard, Amy Patrylick and Skylar Brown Thompson.

The 2010-2011 Theatre and Dance season is sponsored by Boone Bagelry and Joe’s Italian Kitchen, and supported by Stick Boy Break Company and Hob Knob Farm Café.
