Innovation 2010: Business Resources for Success seminar held Nov. 10 in Hickory

BOONE—Award-winning author and innovations expert Dr. Andrew Hargadon will be the keynote speaker at the Innovation 2010: Business Resources for Success seminar Nov. 10 in Hickory. The seminar is cosponsored by Appalachian State University.

Jazz Ensemble held Nov. 3

BOONE-The Appalachian State University Hayes School of Music presents Jazz Ensemble I in concert Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 8 p.m. in Farthing Auditorium on campus.  The concert is free and open to the public.

Appalachian to test its siren warning system Nov. 3

BOONE—Appalachian State University will test its campus-wide siren warning system Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 11:55 a.m. Tests are normally conducted on the first Wednesday of the month.

Despite gains, economic recovery remains rough in western North Carolina

BOONE—Western North Carolina’s economic activity increased 0.9 percent in August, the largest increase since July 2007. The increase follows three months of declines that totaled 0.6 percent, but as in past months, the Western North Carolina Economic Index paints a mixed picture of the region’s recovery from the recent recession.

Theatre and Dance Presents Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” Nov. 3-7

BOONE – Appalachian State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance presents “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare Nov. 3-7 in Valborg Theatre on campus. Performances Wednesday through Saturday begin at 7:30 p.m. with Sunday’s matinee beginning at 2 p.m.

Violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn to teach violin master class at Appalachian

pitcairn_t.jpgBOONE— Elizabeth Pitcairn will teach a public master class with Appalachian State University violin students Nov. 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. The master class is free and open to the public and will be of particular interest to violin students and teachers in the area.

Appalachian holds candlelight vigil Oct. 28 to remember gay teen suicides

BOONE —The recent national rash of gay teen suicides will be remembered in a candlelight vigil on Thursday, Oct.  28, at 7 p.m.  on Sanford Mall on the campus of Appalachian State University. The public is invited to attend.

Faculty recital series showcases pianist Rodney Reynerson
