BOONE— Hehewutei Amakali, a junior geology major at Appalachian State University, has received a $1,500 scholarship from the Subaru Minority Student Scholarship Program. The scholarship is presented in partnership with the Geological Society of America. (GSA) and includes free registration to the GSA Annual Meeting held in November in Denver, Colo. [more]

BOONE—The Appalachian State University Institute for Health and Human Services received a $99,000 grant to prevent and better understand chronic diseases related to physical inactivity and obesity, and to better understand health risks of adolescents. The project, known as Appalachian Ashe Prevention Partnership’s (AAPP) project “Rural Health Outreach Special Initiative” is funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). [more]
