Appalachian named a Best Southeastern College by the Princeton Review
BOONE—Appalachian State University has been named a Best Southeastern College by The Princeton Review. The designation is included in the publication’s 2011 “The Best 373 Colleges” publication.
“To be included in The Princeton Review as a Best Southeastern College provides additional confirmation that the faculty and staff at Appalachian have maintained quality in academics in these challenging financial times,” said Chancellor Kenneth E. Peacock. “I am proud of this well deserved recognition and for the commitment and hard work of the faculty which made this possible for our university.”
The listing is based on Appalachian’s academic programs, as well as student surveys that praised the accessibility of the university’s faculty, quality of academic programs and value. “The academics here are tough,” an exercise science major reported in the survey, “but definitely not impossible.” Another student commented that professors are “personable and approachable in and out of the classroom.”
Students also commented on the “accessible” and “very visible” administration, including Chancellor Peacock. “He knows people by name, and he regularly meets with groups to find out what improvements can be made to campus,” one student reported.
The Princeton Review produces numerous publications aimed at helping students choose a college and prepare for their higher education.
In April, the university was included in the Princeton Review’s guide to “green” colleges.
