Sept. 10 recital features works for harpsichord and clavichord

Appalachian’s “BIG Sale” draws big crowds

BIGSale2010_t.jpgBOONE—Desk lamps, fans, clothes, electronics, kitchenware and furniture all received a second life during the Big Sale Aug. 21 at Appalachian State University. The annual event held in Legends on campus raised more than $15,000 to benefit four area charities and the ACT Leigh Lane Edwards Scholarship Fund that supports ACT study abroad service-learning trips.

Appalachian to test its alert system Sept. 9

BOONE—Appalachian State University will test its campus-wide alert system Thursday, Sept. 9, at 11:55 a.m. as part of Safety Week activities at the university.

Walk for Awareness held Sept. 7

BOONE—The annual Walk for Awareness will turn 21 this year.

The 21st Walk for Awareness at Appalachian State University will be held Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 9 p.m. on Sanford Mall.  Prior to the walk, the video “Why Walk? A Survivor’s Story” will be shown in the Price Lake Room of Plemmons Student Union at 8 p.m.  Speakers for the walk include Maliaka King Albrecht, a North Carolina poet, and Jamar Banks, director of the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership at Appalachian.

BOONE—Topics from environmental ethics to religion and nature will be featured during the 2010 Business and Environmental Ethics Conference Sept. 17 at Appalachian State University. Other topics include environmental economics, strategy and nature, and university sustainability.
