BOONE—Desk lamps, fans, clothes, electronics, kitchenware and furniture all received a second life during the Big Sale Aug. 21 at Appalachian State University. The annual event held in Legends on campus raised more than $15,000 to benefit four area charities and the ACT Leigh Lane Edwards Scholarship Fund that supports ACT study abroad service-learning trips. BOONE—The annual Walk for Awareness will turn 21 this year.
The 21st Walk for Awareness at Appalachian State University will be held Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 9 p.m. on Sanford Mall. Prior to the walk, the video “Why Walk? A Survivor’s Story” will be shown in the Price Lake Room of Plemmons Student Union at 8 p.m. Speakers for the walk include Maliaka King Albrecht, a North Carolina poet, and Jamar Banks, director of the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership at Appalachian.
