Workshop on long blooming perennials offered June 19

BOONE—The High Country Gardening community outreach series presents “Long Bloom, Bloom Perennials” Saturday, June 19, from 10-11:30 a.m. and noon-1:30 p.m. The free workshop explores the use of winter-hardy, long-blooming herbaceous perennials in the garden.

The class, led by Jerry Meyer from Appalachian State University’s Department of Biology greenhouse, will explore a gallery of two dozen plants and include information on care, maintenance and selection. The workshop provides a great opportunity to ask questions about participants’ own landscapes.

There is no fee for the class, which will be taught at the greenhouse located at 333 Dale Street across from the State Farm student parking lot.

Register for either class by e-mailing meyerja@appstate.edu or calling 262-4025.

The Department of Biology greenhouse conservatory has more than 550 species of tropical, subtropical and temperate plants. Visitors are welcome weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Tours to groups are available upon request.
