Free class on hardy cut flower perennials offered May 15

BOONE—Learn about the selection and care of hardy cut flower perennials during a free class May 15 offered by the Department of Biology at Appalachian State University.

The class will run from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Department of Biology’s greenhouse, located at 333 Dale St. off State Farm Road.

The class is part of the department’s High Country gardening series. The classes are taught by greenhouse manager Jerry Meyer, who is a seasoned cold climate gardener and designer.

Meyer, who manages the greenhouse and the biology department’s conservatory with its 500 species of plants from around the world, has an environmental science degree from Cornell University and a horticulture and botany degree from the University of Vermont.
