MEISA Presents: UNPLUGGED Feb. 27

guitar_t.jpgBOONE—Talented student singer-songwriters from Appalachian State University will perform in MEISA’s UNPLUGGED concert Saturday, Feb. 27. The performance will take place in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $3.

MEISA is the Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association based in Appalachian’s Hayes School of Music. The national student organization focuses on the business side of the music industry.

Celebrating its third anniversary, MEISA UNPLUGGED will highlight eight individuals who auditioned in November for a chance to be on stage. The auditions were open to any student with the ability to perform original, acoustic music live.

This year’s finalists are Ashley Heath, Nathan Brown, Tyler Brown, Stephanie Nash, Tyron Young, Nick Davison, Jenna Smith and Shay Lovette.

UNPLUGGED allows students in MEISA, Split Rail Records, the student-run record label, and other music industry studies majors to apply their skills and knowledge of the music industry within a professional setting.

In addition to exposing and promoting talented local musicians, this year’s UNPLUGGED will also assist in funding the local MEISA chapter’s journey to Miami, Fla., for the national MEISA conference. The conference allows students to build relationships with other MEISA chapters from across the nation and have the opportunity to meet music industry professionals and explore internship opportunities.
