Student composers recital held Feb. 22

BOONE—Student composers from Appalachian State University’s Hayes School of Music will perform their work Feb. 22 in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. The program begins at 8 p.m.

The program ranges from compositions for voice, to works for bassoons, strings and trombone.

Pianist William Watson will perform “Aardvark on Unicycle” with flutist Johanna Albrecht and violist David Hunt.

Watson also will perform “A Brief History on the Word ‘Pants’ for Theremin and Spoken Word” with vocalist Nathan Brown. Watson will play the theremin, a type of electronic instrument used to manipulate sound waves.

Pianist Brittany Dunton will perform “Detrusion” with violinist Chelsea Whittaker and guitarist Brian Hodges. Tenor Nathan Brown will perform “Ode to a Dream” accompanied by pianist William Watson and trombonists Kris Bifulco and Greg Brown.

Violist David Hunt will perform two of his compositions – “Two Idylls” and “Lachrymae.” His accompanist is Elizabeth Salter on piano and harpsichord. Jonathan Carter’s “Eine Erzaehlung” will be performed by bassoonists Sarah Jett, Sean Gallagher, Kelly Frost and Anna Fitzgerald.

The program concludes with Duncan Boatright’s “Ilea Euros Ye for Double Second Steel Pan and String Orchestra.”
