“Healing after Suicide Loss” to be held Saturday
BOONE— Each year more than 32,000 people die by suicide, and every one of them leaves behind loved ones and friends. Appalachian State University joins the 11th Annual National Survivors of Suicide Day Nov. 21 for an event to offer healing, support and empowerment.
A broadcast titled “Healing after Suicide Loss: National Survivors of Suicide Day” will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. in the Table Rock Room in Plemmons Student Union. The event is sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
The nation-wide program features a panel comprised of those who have experienced a loss because of suicide and medical experts. The day allows survivors to connect with one another in their local community and online in an empowering and healing environment. The program is also available online at www.afsp.org and will be available online for two years.
Appalachian is among more than 175 conference sites to participate in the event. For some survivors, AFSP’s National Survivors of Suicide Day is the first time they will share their grief, reach out for support and support others.
