Cellist Grace Anderson performs Nov. 20 at Appalachian

BOONE—Grace Anderson will present a cello recital Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.

Anderson is founder and artistic director of the Triad Chamber Music Society, which brings performers to the N.C. Piedmont Triad. She also maintains an active teaching studio and directs the Young Performers’ Chamber Music Workshop.

She received her bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, a master’s degree from the Juilliard School and a doctorate from UNC Greensboro. She was a protégée of Fred Sherry, a pioneer of contemporary music, and Bernard Greenhouse, founding member of the Beaux Arts Trio. She also studied under the “father of all cellists,” Pablo Casals.

Anderson has performed as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician in major concert halls throughout the United States and Europe, including the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Bargemusic, Alice Tully Hall and Merkin Concert Hall in New York and the Kennedy Center. She has performed at Caramoor International Music Festival, and music festivals in Canada, Holland, Germany, France and Croatia.

Her Nov. 20 recital features Bach’s “Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 3 in C major, BWV 1009,” Gaspar Cassadó’s “Suite for cello solo,” Mark O’Connor’s “Appalachia Waltz” and Zoltán Kodály’s “Sonata for solo cello, Op. 8.”
