Panel discussion Nov. 19 concludes Darwin bicentennial celebration
BOONE—Appalachian State University’s yearlong series of programs related to the 150th anniversary of the publication of Darwin’s “On the Origin of the Species” concludes Nov. 19 with the panel discussion “Celebrating 150 Years of Evolutionary Thought.”
The discussion runs from 2-5 p.m. in Plemmons Student Union’s Blue Ridge Ballroom.
Guest panelist is Jim Costa, author of “The Annotated Origin of the Species” and director the Highlands Biological Station and professor at Western Carolina University.
The event is free and open to the public.
Costa will be joined by Appalachian faculty members Dan Caton from the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Tom Ellis from the Department of Philosophy and Religion, Andy Heckert from the Department of Geology, Zack Murrell from the Department of Biology, David Reid from the Department of History, Johnny Waters from the Department of Geology and Ted Zerucha from the Department of Biology. The panel will be moderated by Howie Neufeld from the Department of Biology.
