Cellist JW Turner performs at Appalachian Nov. 13

BOONE—Cellist JW Turner will perform Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall at Appalachian State University. Turner is an assistant professor of music theory at Winston-Salem State University.

The program is comprised of works for solo cello: William Pfaff’s “Elegy,” Matthew Gold’s “Meditation on a Handel Aria,” Bruce Mahin’s “Waves of Amber” and Klaus G. Roy’s “Serenade for Cello Solo, Op. 62.”

Turner has pursued careers in teaching and performance, serving on the faculties of Whitman College, Guilford College, the Greensboro College and UNC Pembroke.

He is a frequent guest of the New Horizons concert series at Radford University, has performed at conferences for the College Music Society and the Southeast Composers League, and showcases chamber music of regional composers as the artistic director of the WSSU concert series, New Music Revelations.
