Appalachian honors the best of the best

Board_of_Gov_t.jpgBOONE—Appalachian State University faculty recipients of the UNC Board of Governors teaching awards were honored recently at a reception on campus hosted by the Hubbard Center for Faculty Development.

They are Steve Hageman, left, Angela Losardo, Scott Tobias, Neva Specht, Cathy McKinney, Jeff Bortz and Richard Pouder.

In May, McKinney and 16 other faculty members from UNC system universities received the UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching. McKinney is a professor in the Hayes School of Music. She received a cash prize and a commemorative bronze medallion.

The UNC Board of Governors also allocated $6,500 to Appalachian to reward faculty for teaching excellence at the undergraduate level. First runner-up was Bortz from the Department of History. He received the $1,500 Appalachian State University Excellence in Teaching Award.

Pouder, Department of Management; Specht, Department of History; Tobias, Hayes School of Music; Losardo, Department of Language, Reading and Exceptionalities; and Hageman, Department of Geology.
