New department chairs named in Appalachian’s Walker College of Business

BOONE— Dr. Betty S. Coffey, a professor of strategic management at Appalachian State University, has been named chair of the Department of Management and Dr. John Whitehead, a professor of economics, has been named chair of the Department of Economics. Both departments are in Appalachian’s Walker College of Business.

Poe, Furches and Clarke inducted into Appalachian’s Rhododendron Society

BOONE—Appalachian State University’s student-run radio station WASU 90.5 FM received two Finalist Certificates in the New York Festivals Radio Broadcasting Awards.

Former school teacher honors parents and supports future teachers with scholarship

Appalachian to test siren warning system Aug. 5

BOONE—Appalachian State University will conduct its monthly test of the campus siren warning system Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 11:55 a.m.

Incoming freshmen hone math skills in special summer program at Appalachian

summerbridge_t.jpgBOONE—Aimee Messier had second thoughts about spending part of her summer in an academic camp for entering freshmen at Appalachian State University.

Now she is glad she did. Messier of Concord says the experience in the Appalachian Undergraduate Academy of Science’s summer bridge program has helped prepare her for her first year at Appalachian.

Robinson to retire Sept. 1

BOONE—Linda K. Robinson, associate vice chancellor in the Office of Equity, Diversity and Compliance (EDC) at Appalachian State University, has announced plans to retire Sept. 1.

Pope and Tiller named departmental chairs at Appalachian

Dr. Janice Pope, a professor of communication, has been named chair of the Department of Communication and Jeff Tiller, a professor of building science, has been named chair of the Department of Technology, at Appalachian State University. Pope served as interim chair of her department for the past two years and Tiller was interim chair of his department for the past year.

Forum on building profit in a “green economy” held Aug. 7

BOONE—A free forum, “Re-Powering Our Region: Building Profit by Being Green,” will be held at the Broyhill Civic Center in Lenoir Friday, Aug. 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
