Brazilian delegation to visit Appalachian

Group will participate in session sponsored by U.S. Commercial Service

BOONE—Ceará State Congressman Francisco Caminha will lead a delegation of Brazilians to the Appalachian State University campus in July. The delegation will participate in an international initiatives program co-sponsored by Appalachian’s Walker College of Business and the U.S. Commercial Service (USCS) on July 10.

The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Faculty and Staff Lounge on the fourth floor of Raley Hall on campus. The discussion is open to the public and is free of charge; however, interested persons are asked to register online at http://www.buyusa.gov/northcarolina/boone.html. For information, contact Martin Meznar in the Walker College of Business at meznarmb@appstate.edu or 828-262-2057.

The event is intended to promote international business and give students, faculty and community members the opportunity to learn about trading opportunities with Brazil.

“Brazil is one of North Carolina’s top 10 trading partners,” said Walker College of Business International Programs Dean Martin Meznar.  “This is a great opportunity for local businesses interested in exploring new opportunities abroad who think they could benefit from trade with Brazil.”

Appalachian faculty members will discuss socio-economic challenges in Brazil, and Appalachian Associate Professor Jeff Ramsdell will lead a discussion about a landfill methane recovery research project there.

The Brazilian discussion is part of a series of global opportunity sessions sponsored by the Walker College of Business and the USCS.

Each workshop will highlight country-specific opportunity discussions.  The next workshop is Aug. 14 and will cover trade currently permitted with Cuba, as well as possible changes in trade restrictions.  Subsequent sessions are planned for Sept. 11, Oct. 9 and Nov. 6.
