Workshop on small-scale microhydro systems held July 17 and 18 at Appalachian

BOONE— Learn how to harness power from a small stream on your property during a workshop on residential micro-hydro systems July 17-18 at Appalachian State University.

Participants will learn about site assessment techniques, including the measurement of head and flow; system design; types of turbines and their associated performance and cost; system components such as the intake, penstock and balance of system; maintenance and troubleshooting; case studies and tips. The workshop will include field trips to local microhydro installations.

The workshop will be held in Room 178 Harper Hall on campus. Cost is $150 for students and $300 for nonstudents. Registration is limited to 20 participants.

The workshop begins with registration/continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m., the work session starts at 9 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m. each day.
