Wright is senior director of grants administration and compliance reporting for the Wake County Public School System. She earned her Ed.D. in educational leadership in May 2008. Her dissertation research focused on the issues faced by working mothers who have to balance their responsibilities in the home and those in the workplace.

The award was presented as part of the Doctoral Program Spring Symposium held at the Appalachian State University Center in Hickory April 25.

Appalachian’s doctoral program in educational leadership is now in its 16th year. Participants typically are professionals from public school, community college or university settings.
An on-campus cohort of 12 doctoral students is admitted to the program each year.

Two years ago, in response to growing demands, an additional cohort of 12 students was admitted to the program offered at Appalachian State University Center in Hickory. A second cohort will start their doctoral studies at Hickory this fall.
