Opportunity for graduate study abroad in Germany
Four spaces remain in a summer study abroad program in Germany, Bavaria and Austria offered by the Reich College of Education. The program is for graduate students only. Students will participate in a three-hour online course during spring 2010 and then conduct research at the International Youth Library in Blutenburg Castle in Munich, Germany. The library houses children’s literature from 140 different countries.
New members elected to Appalachian State University Foundation Board
BOONE—Thomas E. “Ted” Chandler Jr. of Burlington, Livian L. Jones of Wilmington and Jeffrey A. Shepard of Hilton Head Island, S.C., have been elected to a four-year term on the board of directors of the Appalachian State University Foundation Inc. David C. Whilden of Asheville has been appointed to a two-year term.
University open Tuesday, Dec. 22, use caution if coming to work
The University will be open on Tuesday, December 22, 2009; however, not all parking lots and walkways will be cleared of this record December snow fall. If you are not required to come to work, please stay home and use vacation leave or follow the adverse weather policy to make up any lost time.
Appalachian wins Cyclocross National Championship
BOONE – For the second year in a row, Appalachian State University’s cycling team received top honors at the USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships by winning the Division II Collegiate Cyclocross National Championship Dec. 13 in Bend, Ore. The national title is the third in team history as Appalachian also won the 2008 Cyclocross National Championship and the 2008 Mountain Bike National Championship.
Solar thermal system supplies hot water to Appalachian’s student union
BOONE—The student-led and student-run Renewable Energy Initiative (REI) at Appalachian State University has financed the installation of a solar thermal water heating system installed on the roof of Plemmons Student Union. The system will provide hot water for the building’s restaurants, locker rooms and bathroom facilities.
