BOONE—The Appalachian Center for Mountain Winegrowing at Appalachian State University has received a $9,500 grant from the North Carolina Wine and Grape Council (NCWGC) to study soil erosion control as it relates to steep slope vineyards. [more]

Jeff Pennypacker, an ice sculptor at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, created this Appalachian-themed sculpture for the chancellor’s reception held at the historic inn Nov. 17. Pennypacker used colored sand to create the frozen logo. The project, which was donated to the function, took more than four hours to complete.
