“Mountaintop Removal Road Show” presented Nov. 20
BOONE—The Mountaintop Removal Road Show will be presented at Appalachian State University this Thursday, Nov. 20, from 3:30 to 4:45 pm in the Great Hall of the Living Learning Center. The event is free and open to the public.
The road show supports Thursday evening’s musical performance by Public Outcry, which begins at 7 p.m. at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center and features six of Kentucky’s most talented writers and musicians devoted to fighting mountaintop removal mining through music.
The Mountaintop Removal Road Show includes discussion by volunteer Eric Blevins about the process and impact of mountaintop removal mining practices, as well as a 22-minute multimedia presentation about the impacts of mountaintop removal on coalfield residents, communities and the environment. The multimedia presentation features traditional Appalachian mountain music and aerial photos.
The Mountaintop Removal Road Show has been shown more than 500 times in 16 states since 2003. Presentations have been made at 100 large and small universities and many church, community and civic organizations.
