Englebert named director of extension and distance education at Appalachian

BOONE—Mary Faye Englebert has joined Appalachian State University as director of the Office of Extension and Distance Education.

Englebert previously was associate director of distance education at UNC Charlotte, a position she held for more than 11 years.

At Appalachian, Englebert will oversee recruitment for and delivery of undergraduate and graduate degree programs at off-campus sites in the region.

Appalachian currently offers more than three dozen bachelor and master degree programs at community college sites in 10 counties. Currently, nearly 1,500 students are enrolled in Appalachian’s off-campus programs.

“Ms. Englebert brings a wealth of experience to this position, particularly as the university seeks to serve the higher education needs of the region and non-traditional students both through off-campus and online programs,” said Tom Fisher, executive director of the Office of Extension and Distance Education. “She is well acquainted with diverse delivery methods of instruction, student recruitment, program assessment and budgeting.”

Englebert has a master’s degree in history from UNC Charlotte and is enrolled in UNCC’s Ed.D. degree program in educational administration.
