Guest pianist performs Oct. 10 at Appalachian

piano_t.jpgBOONE—Pianist Sharyn Edwards will perform Friday, Oct. 10, in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. Her recital begins at 8 p.m. Admission is free.

Edwards will perform Bach’s “French Suite in G Major, BWV 816,” Chopin’s “Sonata in b minor, Op. 58″ and two preludes by Debussy.

Edwards has performed throughout the Carolinas and southeastern United States in solo and chamber music recitals. In 1999 she made her New York debut at Weill Hall, at Carnegie Hall, and recorded her first CD on the Musikus label.

She was also selected as an artist on the International Artists Alliance roster. Professional performances include her appearing as soloist with the Charlotte Symphony, Charlotte Repertory Orchestra, Charleston Symphony, Fayetteville, and Wilmington Symphony Orchestras. During 1989-91, she was a Touring Artist with the North Carolina Touring Artists Roster.

A native of Asheville, Edwards received her formative piano training with Dorothy Krauss. She holds the doctorate of music degree in piano performance from the University of South Carolina. She earned the master of music degree in piano performance at the University of Kentucky and the bachelor of music degree in piano performance at Mars Hill College.

Edwards is the piano instructor and co-coordinator Southeastern Community College’s music department and director of the Dr. Sharyn Edwards’ Annual Piano Festival and Competition.
