Festival features symposium on Daniel Boone Sept. 5.

BOONE—Daniel Boone Days, Boone’s newest festival, will be held Sept. 4-6 at various locations throughout the Town of Boone.

Activities include the inaugural Daniel Boone Days Symposium, featuring bestselling author and historian Robert Morgan. Morgan is the author of “Gap Creek” and “Boone: A Biography.”

He will join faculty from Appalachian State University in a discussion about Daniel Boone and his connection to the High Country Friday, Sept. 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Appalachian’s Valborg Theatre. Panelists are Bruce Stewart, an associate professor in the Department of History and Colin Ramsey an assistant professor of English. The discussion will be moderated by Chip Arnold, a professor in Appalachian’s Department of English and program director of University College’s Center for Appalachian Studies.

Tickets for the symposium are $2 and will be available at the door. Tickets also are available at the High Country Press office located at 130 N. Depot Street in downtown Boone weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Other activities during Daniel Boone Days include an open house and social Sept. 4 from 11 .am. to 6 p.m. at the High Country Press offices, and a musical and cultural festival Sept. 6 from noon to 5:30 at Horn in the West.
