Music on the Mountain tickets now on sale

BOONE—Tickets for Boone’s first, large-scale music festival, “Music on the Mountain,” are now on sale at www.musiconthemountain.net. The festival will be held Aug. 23 at 748 Roby Green Rd., at the Old Fair Grounds.

The festival line-up includes Sam Bush, Perpetual Groove, Acoustic Syndicate, Jerry Douglas, The Afromotive, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, The Firecracker Jazz Band, Do it to Julia, the Lost Ridge Band, Uncle Mountain and Bafoodus.

Advance tickets are $30 for all Appalachian students, faculty, and staff with Appalachian State University identification, and $35 for general admission until June 1. Tickets will be $40 and $45 at the gate.

“We want to offer a festival of the same size as MerleFest and Bele Chere but have it in our own backyard,”said Jimmy Hunt, an Appalachian student and one of the festival’s promoters. “I’m a college student and I know how money is always tight, so why not bring the festival to us and save all that money that usually goes toward gas and hotels.”

The majority of the proceeds from the festival will benefit NC Green Power, Appalachian’s Energy Center, and the High Country Conservancy.

“We want the community, and especially the Appalachian students, to realize the opportunity we have with Music on the Mountain,” Hunt said.

“Our goals these past months have been to raise money and awareness of ecological issues and to bring amazing music to Boone. We just hope people realize that with the right support we can keep the festival here see it get bigger and bigger,” said fellow student Nick Barringer, another of the festival’s promoters.
