Ellis named interim chair of Department of Economics
BOONE—Larry V. Ellis has been named interim chairman of the Walker College of Business’s Department of Economics at Appalachian State University effective July 1.
He replaces George Schieren, who is retiring after 31 years at the university.
“I am very pleased that Larry Ellis has agreed to serve as interim chair of the Department of Economics for the 2008-09 academic year,” said Dr. Randy Edwards, dean of the Walker College of Business. “Larry has prior experience as department chair and he will do a great job.”

Ellis chaired the Department of Economics from 1987-1992, and was director of the Center for the Study of Private Enterprise from 1983-1988.
He has taught courses in macroeconomic analysis, macroeconomics for business and principles of economics.
Ellis has co-authored articles appearing in the International Review of Economics Education, International Social Science Review, Atlantic Economic Journal and American Economic Review: Papers and Proceedings.
He has served on the business college’s Graduate Curriculum Committee, Study Abroad Committee and Faculty Composition and Development Committee, and the economics department’s Departmental Personnel Committee.
