Graphic design major wins ‘best of show’
BOONE – Attabel Artiga, a senior graphic design major at Appalachian State University, won Best of Show at the 2008 AIGA Charlotte Portfolio Review on May 3.
Twenty-five students and recent graduates from Charlotte area colleges and universities were judged on their professionalism, presentation skills and quality of work. As winner of Best of Show, Attabel was awarded three consecutive one-month internships with design units at Rubbermaid, birdsong gregory visual communications, and BooneOakley advertising agency. The internships will be completed this summer.

“Attabel is one of our finest students, and this award is a wonderful way for her to start her career. We are very proud of her,” said Mark Nystrom, an assistant professor in Appalachian’s Department of Art.
The portfolio review was sponsored by the Charlotte Chapter of AIGA: the Professional Association for Design. AIGA is the oldest and largest membership association for professionals engaged in the discipline, practice, and culture of designing. Nationally, the association represents 22,000 designers through 59 national affiliates and 240 student groups.
Artiga, an international student from El Salvador, graduates May 10. Her portfolio is available at www.attabelartiga.com.
