Electro-acoustic group soNu performs at Appalachian
BOONE— The Southern California based electro-acoustic improvisational group soNu will perform April 10 at Appalachian State University.
The 8 p.m. performance in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall is free and open to the public. A reception following the concert is sponsored by the university’s Diversity Celebration.
The program, to be announced from the stage, will include compositions by contemporary composers Gustavo Aguilar, Phil Curtis, Annea Lockwood, Anne Lebaron, Julio Estrada and Nina Sun Eidsheim.
soNu has been described by Anthony Braxton as producing “the music of the Third Millennium.” Synthesizing a range of music and cultures that its members have grown up with, absorbed and studied, the musicians engage in a creative music process of bringing present, past and future forms, structures and textures into real-time music making.
soNu is committed to critically reexamining and reconceptualizing composition and improvisation, with an eye toward the socio-cultural context of contemporary communities.
