Faculty recital series features chamber music

BOONE—The Hayes School of Music’s Faculty Recital Series at Appalachian State University presents “An Evening of Chamber Music for Strings, Winds and Piano” Tuesday, April 2.

The 8 p.m. recital will be held in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

Call for applications for the Board of Governors Excellence in Public Service Award

The University Awards Committee is now accepting applications through Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 5 p.m. for the 2007-2008 Board of Governors Excellence in Public Service Award. Workshop series at Appalachian focuses on alternative energy sources

BOONE—The Western North Carolina Renewable Energy Initiative at Appalachian State University has organized a series of workshops that will focus on alternative energy sources.

Solar energy expert leads workshop at Appalachian April 5-6

BOONE—Solar energy expert Chuck Marken and Appalachian State University’s Western North Carolina Renewable Energy Initiative will lead a two-day workshop on solar water and space heating April 5-6.

Percussion ensembles perform March 30 at Appalachian

BOONE— Percussion ensembles from Appalachian State University’s Hayes School of Music will perform March 30 during the school’s World Percussion Series. The concert begins at 2 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

Performing are the African Ensemble, Steely Pan Steel Band®, Tabla Ensemble and Mid-East Ensemble.

BOONE—The 2nd Annual People of the Planet Soccer Tournament at Appalachian State University on Sunday, April 6, will celebrate campus and community cultural diversity.

Campbell receives award for his Sam Ervin biography

karl campbell.jpgBOONE—The book “Sam Ervin: Last of the Founding Fathers” has received the North Caroliniana Book Award for 2007. The award will be presented May 29 in Greensboro during a meeting of the North Caroliniana Society.

Adams named chair of Appalachian’s Department of Theatre and Dance

Adams04_t.jpgBOONE—Marianne Adams has been named chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance at Appalachian State University, effective July 1. Adams has served as interim chair since July 1, 2007. She is a professor and coordinator of the dance program in the department.

Creative work by Appalachian employees honored

Case_First_Connections_t.jpgBOONE—Appalachian State University’s enrollment guide for newly accepted freshmen and transfer students called First Connections was a Grand Award winner at the 2008 District III meeting of CASE, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.The guide was recognized in CASE’s student recruitment-printed publications category for its content, design and overall effectiveness.
