Solar energy expert leads workshop at Appalachian April 5-6
BOONE—Solar energy expert Chuck Marken and Appalachian State University’s Western North Carolina Renewable Energy Initiative will lead a two-day workshop on solar water and space heating April 5-6.
The workshop will be offered in Katherine Harper Hall on campus. Cost is $190 for both days for nonstudents and $95 for students. Online registration is available at http://camps.appstate.edu/reg/wind.php or call Brent Summerville at (828) 262-7333.
Marken has been installing solar thermal systems since 1979. He is the solar thermal technical reviewer for Home Power magazine and has authored more than 25 articles for the magazine.
His business, AAA Solar, is located in New Mexico and operates out of a solar-heated shop that produces electrical energy with its photovoltaic system.
Solar thermal applications are currently the most accessible and economically favorable of solar technologies available in the marketplace. Workshop attendees will learn how to take advantage of a free and infinitely renewable fuel source using proven and reliable technologies. Site assessment, system design, maintenance, and operation will be covered in depth during the question-oriented clinic.
