Musical duo of David Gee and Lynn Mackey perform at Appalachian

BOONE—The Gee-Mackey Duo will perform April 3 at Appalachian State University.
The 8 p.m. performance will be held in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

Cellist David Gee and pianist Lynn Mackey will perform Paul Bazelaire’s “Suite Française, Op. 114,”  Gabriel Fauré’s “Elegy, Opus 24,” Tim Mainland’s “Duo for Cello and Piano” and Astor Piazzolla’s “Oblivion.”

They also will perform works by Beethoven, Manuel de Falla and Cesar Camargo Mariano.

The Gee-Mackey Duo was formed in 2004 and performs widely in the mid-Atlantic States. They premiered two commissioned works of composers David Long and Craig Naylor at the University of Mary Washington, and performed in upstate New York last spring. Most recently, they premiered a new work of composer Tim Mainland at Concord University in West Virginia.

Gee has a master’s degree in music from Yale University. He is the principal cellist with the Augusta Symphony. Gee plays a cello made by Antonius Guadagnini, currently on loan from The Holm Foundation. He has performed as a soloist, quartet member and orchestral cellist in America, Europe and Africa. Gee also has performed live on National Public Radio and Spanish National Radio.

Mackey is an associate professor in the Department of Music at Eastern Mennonite University. She has performed in solo and chamber music settings in the United States and the Netherlands. She is a graduate of The Juilliard School and has a doctorate from the Eastman School of Music.
