Appalachian’s Doorways International Program focuses on Poland

Poland_map_t.jpgDr. Longin Pastusiak will present “Is Poland America’s ‘Trojan Horse’ in the European Union?” March 31 at 3:30 p.m. in Room 114 Belk Library and Information Commons at Appalachian State University.

Since the arrival of the first Polish immigrants to Jamestown in 1608, historic events and mutual interests have brought Polish-U.S. relations progressively closer. Pastusiak will address the current state of bilateral Polish-U.S. relations and will respond to the concern of many European politicians who see a pro-American Poland as potentially becoming America’s “Trojan Horse” in the European Union.

Pastusiak is one of Poland’s eminent scholars of political thought as well as one of its most important political figures. The author of more than 600 scholarly publications on international relations, he has also held many positions of leadership in the Polish government and international organizations.

Pastusiak is a visiting faculty member at Appalachian where he is teaching and researching the 400-year-history of Polish-American relations.

The Doorways series is sponsored by Belk Library and Information Commons. Its goal is to provide a platform for people to share their research and knowledge on international issues and build relationships on campus based on interest in international affairs.
