Talk on Alice Herz-Sommer presented April 16

BOONE—Elizabeth Jordan Spragins will present the talk “An Elegant Survival: Alice Herz-Sommer” Wednesday, April 16, at Appalachian State University.

Her talk begins at 7 p.m. in Room 114 Belk Library and Information Commons.

Musical response to manmade and natural disasters presented April 14

John Sampen and Marilyn Shrude.jpgBOONE—Saxophonist John Sampen and composer and pianist Marilyn Shrude will present an 8 p.m. recital titled “Voices of Dissent” April 14 in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. A reception will follow the recital. The public is invited.

Strawberry Hill Fiddlers perform April 13 at Appalachian

BOONE—The Strawberry Hill Fiddlers will present a concert of traditional music Sunday, April 13, at 7 p.m. in I.G. Greer Auditorium at Appalachian State University. The concert is sponsored by the university’s Center for Appalachian Studies, Appalachian Heritage Council

and the College of Arts and Sciences. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Woodwind chamber ensembles perform April 8

BOONE—Chamber music for woodwind instruments will be performed April 8 at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall at Appalachian State University. Admission is free.

Lecture on play therapy presented April 7

BOONE—Dr. Margaret Robson, director of counseling psychology at Keele University (UK) and a board certified diplomate in play therapy, will present a lecture on play therapy Monday, April 7, at 7 p.m. in Room 03 Edwin Duncan Hall at Appalachian State University. The public is invited.

Georgia Rhoades named director of Appalachian’s Writing Across the Curriculum program

Media literacy expert at Appalachian is a finalist for a Cable’s Leaders in Learning Award

considine_t.jpgBOONE—David Considine, a professor of instructional technology and media studies at Appalachian State University, is one of four finalists for Cable in the Classroom’s 2008 Cable’s Leaders in Learning Award in the media literacy education category. He was nominated for the award by Charter Communications in Boone.
