BOONE—Nine students from Appalachian State University will work as volunteers during UNC TV’s fundraising telethon Festival 2008. The students will take financial pledges from viewers on March 1 from 2:30-7:30 p.m. and March 2 from 7-11:30 a.m.
Students who work with the university’s volunteer clearinghouse Appalachian and the Community Together (ACT) were recruited for the project by Jillian Pyatte, a graduate assistant in the ACT office.
The volunteers will take pledge information called in by viewers of the public television station, which is located in Research Triangle Park.
“It’s a tradition for ACT students to be part of the UNC TV telethon,” Pyatte said. This is at least the fourth year students from Appalachian have been part of the event. “Our students always return very excited about the experience and talk about the great time they have and the hospitality shown them by UNC TV staff.”
