Hope Laura Cassidy, right, is this year’s recipient of the Daisy Austin Adams Endowed Scholarship for Education. The scholarship was created by Adams’s family members in honor of her more than 30 years of teaching. Now in its third year, the scholarship awards $1,250 per semester to a graduate of Watauga, Avery or Ashe high school who is currently enrolled fulltime in elementary education in Appalachian’s Reich College of Education. Adams, right, is a retired Watauga County teacher and a 1939 graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College. Cassidy is from Avery County. Also receiving a scholarship but not pictured is Shannon Lynn Bennett from Ashe County.
