Supporting economic development and education

ARC_t.jpgBOONE—Anne Pope, federal co-chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission, visited Appalachian State University to review progress of two ARC-funded projects housed on campus: The Appalachian Enterprise Center and The Western North Carolina Network for Access and Success (WNCNAS).

During her visit, Pope visited the enterprise center and met with freshman music major Isaac Lytle, a graduate of McDowell High School, to discuss his educational aspirations and career goals. Lytle’s high school received a mini-grant from WNCNAS to implement a series of activities to improve high school graduation and post-secondary enrollment.

While in Boone, Pope also met with Appalachian’s Chancellor Kenneth E. Peacock, state Sen. Steve Goss, state Rep. Cullie Tarleton, and other campus administrators and local agency representatives to discuss ideas for future partnerships with the Appalachian Regional Commission.
