BOONE—The Boone Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor Appalachian State University Appreciation Week Sept. 24-28. As part of the activities, the chamber will host an ice cream social on Monday, Sept. 24, beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Sanford Mall. Chamber members will serve ice cream to staff, faculty and students while supplies last. [more]

BOONE—The music of American composer Alec Wilder is featured Oct. 2 during a Faculty Recital Series presentation at Appalachian State University.

Members of the Mariam Cannon Hayes School of Music will perform a variety of vocal and instrumental compositions in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Wilder’s birth.

The recital begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. [more]

BOONE—Local weather watchers of all ages in northwest North Carolina are needed to participate in the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS). The volunteer weather observers will help collect precipitation data using inexpensive equipment in their backyard. [more]
