Appalachian MBA students travel to China
BOONE—A dozen students enrolled in an international seminar offered through the MBA program in Appalachian State University’s Walker College of Business are learning about international business firsthand with a trip to China.
The seminar is a requirement for the MBA degree and students enrolled in the program participate in an international travel experience as a component of the course.
Throughout the semester, the students explored a range of international business topics through interaction with guest speakers, research, presentations and case analysis. The students will continue their case discussion in China, working in teams with graduate students from Nanjing University.
The students left North Carolina April 16 and will travel through April 29, visiting businesses and cultural sites in Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
Dr. Betty Coffey, a professor of strategic management in the Walker College of Business, is the instructor for the international seminar. She has traveled to China on several occasions to teach and conduct research, once as a Fulbright Scholar. Dr. Philip Witmer, assistant dean in the Walker College of Business and MBA program director, will accompany the group to China.
