BOONE – The Appalachian Young People’s Theatre, part of the Department of Theatre and Dance at Appalachian State University, will present a whimsical version of the well-known Brothers Grimm fairy tale “Rapunzel” April 13-15 in the I.G. Greer Studio Theatre.

Show times are 7 p.m. on Friday, April 13, and 2 p.m. on April 14 and 15. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door, or by calling the Valborg Theatre Box Office at 262-3063. [more]

BOONE—Research and creative work of graduate and undergraduate students at Appalachian State University will be showcased April 19 during the “Celebration of Student Research and Creative Endeavors.”

The annual event, sponsored by Appalachian’s Office of Student Research, will be held from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in Plemmons Student Union. [more]

The Department of English at Appalachian State University honored faculty members whose scholarly and creative work has been published recently. They include, from left, Elizabeth “Betsy” Beaulieu, Rosemary Horowitz, Cece Conway and Sandra Ballard. Beaulieu is the editor of Writing African American Women: An Encyclopedia of Literature By and About Women of Color. Horowitz wrote the book “Elie Wiesel and the Art of Storytelling.” Conway is the producer and director of the video “Banjo Maker and Player Clifford Glenn and Maybell Glenn.” Ballard is co-editor of “The Collected Short Stories of Harriette Simpson Arnow.” Other faculty members whose works have been published are Joseph Bathanti, author of the novel “Coventry,” and William Brewer, editor of “St. Leon: A Tale of the Sixteenth Century” by William Godwin. BOONE—Suzanne H. Freeman says her experiences growing up in a spiritual family environment, and being a wife, mother and busy professional helped prepare her for her role as president of Carolinas Medical Center (CMC).

Freeman spoke to students and faculty Tuesday during the Harlan E. Boyles Distinguished CEO Lecture Series at Appalachian State University about elements that set the stage for successful leadership. The lecture series is sponsored by the Walker College of Business at Appalachian. [more]
