Student Honors Recital Series features pianists in Feb. 7 performance

BOONE—Pianists Thomas LaForgia, Mike Runyun and Allie Utley will perform during the Student Honors Recital Series Feb. 7 at Appalachian State University. All are music majors in Appalachian’s Mariam Cannon Hayes School of Music.

The recital begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

Runyun will perform the “Allegro ma non tanto” from Rachmaninoff’s “Concerto No. 3 in D Minor, Op. 30.” He will be accompanied by pianist and faculty member Bair Shagdaron.

LaForgia will perform two works by Chopin: “Nocturne in F Minor, Op. 55″ and “Ballade in G Minor, Op. 23.”

Utley also will perform compositions by Chopin. She has selected “Waltz in E-flat Major, Op. 18″ and “Scherzo in C-sharp Minor, Op. 39″ for the recital.

LaForgia, Runyun, Utley and Hayes School of Music adjunct instructor Steve Sensenig will perform Chopin’s “Polonaise in A Major, Op. 40.”
