Fall Open House to be held Sept. 16

BOONE – There’s no better way to learn about Appalachian State University than to visit, and there’s no better opportunity to visit than during Fall Open House on Saturday, Sept. 16.

Prospective students and their parents are invited to participate in a number of activities designed to offer a closer look at the university’s academic and social life.

The day begins with the Appalachian Family Assembly from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in Holmes Convocation Center, featuring presentations by university representatives, a performance by the Marching Mountaineers band and a multi-media presentation.

From 9:30 a.m. to noon in the Holmes Center, an Information Fair provides opportunities to speak with representatives from many areas of the university. All academic departments that have undergraduate majors will be present to answer questions and provide information.

Campus tours will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Led by Appalachian Student Ambassadors, the tours begin at the Holmes Center and last about 30 minutes.

Departmental open houses and tours will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Residence halls will be open for tours from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Mini sessions on admissions, scholarships, financial aid, athletics, freshman learning communities, campus diversity and Watauga College will be offered at various times.

Visitors are invited to stay for the Appalachian-Mars Hill College football game, which begins at 3:30 p.m. in Kidd Brewer Stadium. Tickets for seating on the stadium’s visitor’s side will be available at a reduced price during the Information Fair. Parking for Fall Open House is available without charge in the Hill Street and Thomas Hall lots. Disability parking will be available in the Holmes Center parking lot. Shuttle service will be provided from Hill Street and Raley Hall parking areas. Parking will also be available in the Rivers Street Parking Deck and Edwin Duncan/Raley Hall lot for a minimal charge.
