Todd Cherry appointed to Institute for Emerging Issues Faculty Fellows Program

cherry.jpgRALEIGH-The Institute for Emerging Issues (IEI) has appointed Dr. Todd L. Cherry, associate professor of economics at Appalachian State University, to its GlaxoSmithKline Faculty Fellowship Program.

“We are pleased to add Todd to our Faculty Fellows program,” said Luke Bierman, director of IEI. “His qualifications and expertise in public policy at the intersection of environmental and natural resources and regional economic development will make an immediate impact on the Institute’s programs of work.”

Cherry will focus on environmental policy and economic development policy. Specifically, his energy research will allow him to share insights on current policy debates arising from the relatively high oil and gas prices as well as alternative energy sources.

Cherry received his Ph.D. in economics from University of Wyoming, a master of economics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a B.S.B.A. in economics from Appalachian.

The GlaxoSmithKline Faculty Fellowship program offers professors at universities across the state the opportunity to participate in IEI’s innovative public policy programs that bring together new combinations of leaders from business, government and higher education to address North Carolina’s most pressing economic, technological and social issues and make North Carolina a better place to live, work and play.

IEI is a “think and do” tank affiliated with North Carolina State University. It is supported by the North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation.

Faculty Fellows support a variety of IEI projects and initiatives throughout the year. Their work can be followed through the IEI Web site. Although the fellowship is for one year, IEI continues to work with faculty fellows in the public policy arena after their fellowship ends by soliciting their participation in events and ad-hoc advisory groups, particularly in their regions or communities.
