University Holds Memorial Day Ceremony May 29

BOONE—Appalachian State University will hold a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 29, at 7:30 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial on the west side of the Dougherty Administration Building. Blowing Rock resident Lt. Col. William A. Parker (retired) will be the guest speaker.

Activities include a flag-raising ceremony followed by a brief program. A continental breakfast will be served in the administration building lobby following the ceremony. The public is invited to attend.

During his military career, Parker was an academic operations officer for the Marine Corps Communications Electronics Schools and a base facilities officer for the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms, Calif. He was a regimental logistics officer at a marines base camp in Uncheon, Korea. He also served as a global/regional war planner with the Pacific Command. Parker also served as a joint systems officer for the Marine Corps headquarters.

In the private sector, Parker was a principal computer analyst and program manager for Northrop Grumman, providing technical support for the Office of Naval Research, and a senior systems analyst and task manager for ANDRULIS Research Corporation.

Locally, Parker is president of the Blowing Rock Rotary Club and an active volunteer in the community.
