Guest Pianist Sharyn Edwards Performs Oct. 14 at Appalachian

BOONE – Pianist Sharyn Edwards will present a guest recital Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. at Appalachian State University. The free performance will be given in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall and is sponsored by the Mariam Cannon Hayes School of Music.

Edwards also will give a master class on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 10 a.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall.

For the Oct. 14 recital, Edwards will perform Mozart’s “Sonata in F Major, K.332, and Listz’s “Sonetto 104 del Petrarca” and a set of piano preludes by Debussy.

Edwards is the co-coordinator of the music department at Southeastern Community College in Whiteville, N.C., and the director of Southeastern Community College’s Annual Piano Festival and Competition.

She has performed throughout the Carolinas and southeastern United States in solo and chamber music recitals, and has appeared as a soloist with the Charlotte Symphony, Charlotte Repertory Orchestra, Charleston Symphony, and the Fayetteville and Wilmington symphony orchestras.

During 1989-91, she was a touring artist with the North Carolina Touring Artists Roster. In 1999, she made her New York debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall in New York City.

Edwards is a native of Asheville, where her early piano training was with Dorothy Krauss. She has a doctorate of music degree in piano performance from the University of South Carolina.
