Appalachian’s Open House Will Be Held Sept. 17

BOONE – Appalachian State University will open its doors Sept. 17 for its annual Fall Open House. All prospective students and their parents are invited to attend.

The day will feature a variety of activities, all designed to give visitors a greater understanding of Appalachian’s beauty, purpose and rich contribution to the region. Events begin at 9 a.m. in the Holmes Convocation Center with addresses from university representatives. An Information Fair will be held in the convocation center from 9:30 a.m. to noon, where students and parents can receive information regarding academics and other aspects of university life. The Appalachian Student Ambassadors will conduct campus tours from 9:30 a.m. to noon, starting from the convocation center. Tours will last approximately 30 minutes.

Residence halls will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with several rooms available for viewing. Academic departments will host open houses, with faculty members available to answer questions, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. More information regarding these tours will be available at the Information Fair.

Visitors can receive more detailed information about issues of campus life, such as admissions, financial aid and Watauga College by attending 20-minute mini sessions in the Holmes Convocation Center. Times for the sessions will be announced that day.

Participants are invited to stay for a football game at 3:30 p.m. in Kidd Brewer Stadium. The Appalachian Mountaineers will play against Coastal Carolina. Tickets will be available at reduced price for visitors in the Holmes Convocation Center that day from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Free parking will be available on Hill Street and at John Thomas Hall, and disability parking will be available in the convocation center parking lot. There will be a small charge for parking in the Rivers Street Parking Deck and the Raley parking lot. Shuttle service will be provided for visitors on Hill Street and in the Raley parking lot. Security officers will be available to conduct traffic.
