BellSouth Corporation Executive Duane Ackerman is Boyles Lecturer April 7

1.jpgBOONE – F. Duane Ackerman, chairman and chief executive officer for BellSouth Corporation, will be the speaker for the Harlan E. Boyles Distinguished CEO Lecture April 7 at Appalachian State University.

The event, sponsored by the Walker College of Business, begins at 2 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. A reception will follow at 3:15 p.m. at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center.

Ackerman began his communications career in 1964, and has served in numerous capacities with BellSouth. In 1992, he was named president and CEO of BellSouth Telecommunications, BellSouth’s largest subsidiary. He became vice chairman and chief operating officer of BellSouth Corporation in 1995, and president and CEO of BellSouth in 1997. In 1998, he also assumed responsibilities as chairman.

A native of Florida, Ackerman holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Rollins College in Florida, and an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Boyles CEO Lecture Series is named for the late Harlan E. Boyles, who served for 24 years as N.C. state treasurer.
