Sustainable Energy Conference to be Held Sept. 11

BOONE–A conference addressing Sustainable Energy Options in the Appalachians will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Agricultural Services Center at 971 W. King Street. The public is invited.

Registration is $25 per person and $15 for students. Cost includes breakfast, lunch and materials. Registration deadline is Sept. 7. For more information and to register, call (828) 264-3061.

Experts in the field will discuss residential wind power opportunities, solar water heating technologies, green power and green building, photovoltaics, residential micro-hydro, and how to move off the electrical grid.

Speakers will be Anthony Parker, project manager for the N.C. Small Wind Initiative on Beech Mountain; Travis Thompson, a general contractor specializing in solar design; Scott Suddreth, director of Appalachian Regional Initiative for Sustainable Energy; Dona Stankus, an expert in environmental design in architecture; Rand Smith of Blue Ridge Electric Cooperation’s NC Green Power Program; and Dave Hollister, owner of Sundance Power Systems of Mars Hill.

The event is sponsored by Home Energy Partners Inc., in cooperation with Appalachian Regional Initiative for Sustainable Energy, N.C. Cooperative Extension Service, N.C. Solar Center, the Appalachian State University Solar Energy Society, Sundance Power Systems and Earth Mama.
