Appalachian’s Gospel Choir Performs Dec. 7

BOONE–The 112-voice Appalachian State University Gospel Choir will perform in concert Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

The vocal ensemble is comprised of music and non-music majors. “The majority of the members aren’t music majors, but they are lifelong lovers of music who realize that music is important to their lives,” conductor Roosevelt Escalante Jr. said of the ensemble. Escalante is an assistant professor in the Hayes School of Music.

The choir will sing Joe Pace’s “Let Us Go Into the House,” Escalante’s “Praise Him,” Kirk Franklin’s “He Reigns,” Robert Fryson’s “God Is” and Marquis Powell’s “Prayer Song” and others.

Genesis, a smaller choir from within the gospel choir, will sing Franklin’s “My Life, My Love, My All,” Pace’s “Have Your Way” and “I Was Glad,” and “Donnie McClurkin’s “Speak to My Heart.”
